Meet Jeff Kibble

Jeff is the Member of Parliament for Cowichan – Malahat – Langford on the south end of Vancouver Island as well as a Committee Member on the Standing Committee on National Defence.

Born in Toronto, Jeff moved to Vancouver at a young age where he spent many weekends and summers on Salt Spring Island, learning to sail, fish, and harvest from the land with his loving grandparents. His love for sailing developed during childhood through racing dinghies, spending time on his family boat, and later working on tall ships in British Columbia and Great Britain. He continues to enjoy spending time with his family outdoors, hiking, sailing, and camping along the coast of British Columbia, and recently completed the Vancouver Marathon.

Veteran and Community Advocate

Jeff studied English at the University of British Columbia and French at the CEGEP in Jonquière before backpacking across Europe to explore some of the different cultures and histories of the world. Inspired by both of his grandfather who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he chose to join the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1989 as a newly commissioned officer in the Royal Canadian Navy he was posted to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt on Vancouver Island. Jeff specialized in navigation, operations and leadership. He deployed to East Timor, the Persian Gulf and commanded the Regional Joint Operations Center Pacific. After five years commanding the Navy sail training ship HMCS ORIOLE, Jeff retired with twenty eight years of service.

As a veteran, remaining active in the community and advocating for his fellow veterans is of paramount importance for Jeff. He and his wife Angel, who is also a veteran herself, are active volunteers and supporters for many veterans and charitable organizations. Jeff has been a team runner for the Wounded Warrior Run, a volunteer for the Canadian Walk for Veterans and helps to raise awareness of mental health challenges in veterans caused by the anti-malarial Mefloquine.

Jeff met his wonderful wife, Angel in 2010 and they quickly became dedicated residents of Langford where they've enjoyed raising their five children and becoming active community members. Jeff and Angel continue to enjoy sailing around Vancouver Island and embrace the natural beauty that coastal life offers.
