BC Ferries, owned by the B.C. provincial government, is sending a major contract to build four ferries in China. Canadian shipyards cannot compete with China's cheap labour, lower safety standards and reduced environmental regulation while at the same time the Liberals are sending B.C. Ferries $38 million in subsidies.
